I have read many articles on the teachings and philosophies behind the LDS church. I have yet to find an article that doesn’t point straight to the fact that the organized religion associated with this branch of moral code has yet to be fully understood. The most shocking find is that many of the rules adhered to by the followers of this association have yet to be fully justified.

Sarah, I totally agree with the fact that drinking cola is unhealthy, and there are many Mormons who don’t drink it. Caffeinated colas and soft drinks are not offered in cafeterias in LDS Church educational institutions (like Brigham Young University), but it’s not spelled out in the Mormon health law, so it’s not breaking the health law to drink it. We don’t know that it’s the caffeine in drinks that caused Heavenly Father to forbid their use. Science came up with the dangers and addictive properties of caffeine years after the health law was given. The Lord did tell Joseph Smith in the revelation why He gave the law: “Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—” (Doctrine and Covenants 89:4). This helps us know what kinds of foods and drinks might entrap us. Thanks for your comment.

Neither of these options sound great. It may surprise you that Mormon youth live the law of chastity and marry very much later than age 18. The divorce rate for couples who marry in Mormon temples is about 7%.

Sure you can follow the law of chastity if you meet the person you want to be with forever when you are 18. Today, I don’t think many people advise getting married so young. Those who do get divorced at astronomically high rates. What’s better, to get married at 18, have children, then become divorced and a single parent, or become sexually active, have a few relationships, get your heart broken, learn a lot, and then get married when you really know yourself and the other person?

Im curious about the rules on non alcohol drinking. I know a family of mormons who regularly drink coke Now although this is non alcoholic it is high in cafeine and can be addictive. Is it possible that they drink this because its not specifically put in writing that this drink is unhealthy.
Iv grown up in a religious family and although im not following any practice of beiefs at present i do greatly respect what people want to follow.
But it concerns me how many mormon followers are drinking coke. If you get a dirty copper penny and soke it in coke it strips the dirt from it. so goodness knows what it will be doing to peoples health. it is also known to reduce calcium levels within the body.
