Hi! I am a convert to the church and one of the things that I learned as I read the Book of Mormon was that of the Pride Cycle. It was so interesting to me and we can see this happening all around us today! The cool thing is that we can learn how to control it. One of the main things that we can do everyday, is pray. This helps to remind us to be grateful and remember where all our blessings come from. When we do not take time to be grateful, we forget where all our blessings come from. When we forget that, we tend to get a bit prideful and start to think that we are better than everyone else. When that happens, we become selfish and begin to believe that all we have is because of all the work that we have done to get it all. But, then something happens and we lose most or all that we have worked for. Maybe health, wealth, friends...it does not matter. What does matter, is that we are compelled to become humble. When that happens, we are once again, teachable. The Holy Ghost can once again, influence us, and we will most likely listen and follow those promptings. By doing so, we begin to have the desire to become more Christ-like and find ourselves being more thankful for what we have. We begin to give thanks to Heavenly Father for what we have. We are more willing to share what we can and serve others.
Some of us have a harder time keeping the pride cycle in check, but the thing to remember is that we do have the power to keep the pride cycle in check. Hopefully, we will not have to be compelled to be humble, but choose to be humble and remember where our blessings come from.
