Thank you for explaining what it really means to be a Mormon, I thought they were very different from modern day Christianity. I did not know that many of the beliefs are the same.

Mainstream Christianity has come about in two ways -- the Orthodox churches which organized a few hundred years after the death of Christ, and the Protestant churches, all of which have attempted to reform perceived problems in orthodox belief and/ or practice. Mormonism is neither of those. It is the restoration of Christ's ancient church with its authority and power, and this was done through modern revelation under the guidance of Jesus Christ Himself.
